International Students and Leadership

The workshop uses research and international student engagement practices to enhance an understanding of, and action in, leadership roles.

What makes a good leader?

Researchers recognise our leaders are constantly challenged to engage people to be productive and effective. In a world of change, the traditional ‘command and control’ form of leadership is not working. More than ever, leadership requires selflessness, compassion and vision.

So, what is a good leader? What goals and ideas make a difference in a contemporary world? How can international students develop leadership skills, and nurture the relationships that support the leadership role?

This workshop explores the qualities of good leadership, the ways various leaders operate in political, social, community and technological domains. Participants discuss their ideas about leadership and problem-solve a challenge using a leadership focus. The workshop is most suitable for international students whose diverse perspectives provide relevant approaches to facing issues in the global environment.
